IEEE 802.11 Network Adapter Design Guidelines for Windows XP

This download white paper describes best practices and recommendations for IEEE 802.11 network adapters designed to work with Microsoft® Windows® XP and the Windows family of operating systems.

To fully support the Wireless LAN enhancements included in Windows XP, an IEEE 802.11 network adapter should implement the requirements listed in this white paper.

NDIS-supported Wireless LAN OIDs and GUIDs
Also available in this download package are the ntddndis.h and ndisguid.h header files.

The 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) object identifiers (OIDs), which are supported by the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) 5.1, are also available through Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) globally unique identifiers (GUIDs).

The WLAN OIDs and GUIDs are defined in the ntddndis.h and ndisguid.h header files. The versions of the files available for download here are updated to include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) OIDs and GUIDs, which are described in IEEE 802.11 Network Adapter Design Guidelines for Windows XP.

When building a WPA driver that supports WLAN and WPA OIDs, include the ntddndis.h header file. When building a user-mode application that uses WMI to query the WPA driver, include the ndisguid.h file.
